I would not spend my own money again to play this course - if you havent played you better invest in a caddie or play with someone who knows the course. Otherwise it is far more frustrating than fun. Prices are high and clubhouse pricing (a joke as there really isnt one) are absurd.

OK, was in northern Idaho for a golf trip right after the US Open so had to drive to Chamber's Bay to play the course. Accepted the $275 green fee but was very disappointed to find out in the pro shop that extra taxes brought the fee to $315. They should tell you when you book about this excessive tax. Anyway, saw on TV how dry the fairways were and that the greens were pretty bad. But, when I played the fairways were back to a nice green, the bunkers were in great shape and the layout was spectacular. We two players were joined by two other players. Although I usually hit from the back tees, we decided to move up one tee box. However, our newly joined twosome decided to hit with us and they were not good enough to do so as they often could not clear the hazards and we spent many minutes hunting for their balls. So, as you might expect, we were politely warned on the 5 hole to speed up. I told the marshall that the two players that joined us would benefit by moving up a tee box or two but he failed to do anything. Instead he just told stories and jokes and that slowed us up even more. I was not happy as my game was pretty bad over the first 6 holes and finally settled down once I realized we were going to be on this course for over 5 hours. However, the course is a real treat and very challenging. It would have been a great experience except the greens were very bad. Hard, bumpy with patchy Poa, and impossible to make a putt. The course is tough enough and you really need to be able to make a few putts to make the round worth the money. The round took us 5 1/2 hours! I did answer a survey and told the staff of the poor greens and they agreed to comp me and my partner a future round. That was nice of them but I hope I can use it as I live in San Diego.

Fabulous layout. Incredible views of the sound. The staff was very friendly, almost like it was the management focus of the week. Unfortunately, the greens are in horrible shape. It seems a stretch to picture this as a US Open course. The layout bodes well for future play if they can grow grass.

The Views are spectacular. The scale of the layout is breath-taking. The general condition of the fairways was no better than fair and the greens were horrible... enough so that they substantially detracted from the experience. The caddie selection is spotty and one of the four in our foursome was dead drunk...

This is a links course in the Pacific Northwest. You don't see that every day. This is a walking only course with a fantastic layout. It is hosting the 2015 US Open but does not seem ready for it based on the facilities built so far. I hired a caddie who was extremely helpful and fun to spend the day with. It is one of the best courses i have played but you have to enjoy a links layout with the fescue style greens. I certainly did. A nice change of pace from the other courses in the Pacific Northwest with 150 foot pines trees lining the fairways.

I loved the layout--but you better be able to hit off of sidehill, downhill and uphill lies or it's going to be a very long day. Played with three young army officers; I'm 62; we had one caddy along but it still took us 5 hours. Very undulating greens--very easy to end up 60 feet from the pin. Hard greens; hit more than one full wedge onto the putting surface and never found one pitch mark. Must walk this course, no carts allowed. Lots of elevation changes. Even though I'm not a Pierce county resident, the round a pull cart, a rental set of clubs, and range balls came to $101. Every bit as much fun as Pebble Beach but so much more expensive. Staff attitude is very welcoming. My advice? Play it before it becomes truly discovered

Take advantage of twilight rate for best value arrive early for access to "included" practice area). The layout is very interesting and par is a challenge on most holes. Great to play a future US Open venue! The course needs some more time to mature, but was decent condition for its age. True links-style course.

Its worth playing once to have the experience but still fairly expensive. Greens are hard and the ball rolls as if over bricks, with too much bouncing around. Almost more luck than skill to find the hole.

There is a reason the US Open will be here in 7 years, even though the course hasn't even had its first birthday yet. There are 18 reasons, actually. Each hole is distinctive, delightful, memorable, and challenging for all the right reasons. The options for each hole are immense, making you think, and the beauty of the course makes it so enjoyable even if you make a mistake. It's expensive, but once every couple of years, it's worth it.
